La Fosse - bed & breakfast in Normandy

Our rooms with a view...

At la Fosse, the bedrooms are south facing and share the same fabulous, uninterrupted views to the hills across the Sée river valley.

With no close neighbours, most days the only sounds to interrupt the peace is birdsong and the bleat of a passing sheep. There may be a tractor chugging past from time-to-time but that’s about all. The sheep you hear – and see – may be our small breeding flock of Ouessants, said to be the smallest (and we think the friendliest) breed of sheep in the world.

Guest bedrooms...

The two guest bedrooms and the guest sitting room are on the first floor making the guest area separate and private from the rest of the house with its own entrance door. The house is set into the hillside so the first floor is accessed by 7 steps up to the front door. If requested, we are delighted to provide assistance with luggage.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are freshly and stylishly decorated, are spotlessly clean, have new, high-quality, pocket-sprung mattresses and all the bed linen is pure cotton. The duvets and pillows are chosen to be easily washable to help ensure the rooms are suitable for people with allergies to, for example, feather pillows.

All rooms are furnished with wardrobes, a chest of drawers, bedside tables and reading lamps. All rooms have underfloor heating for the chillier seasons. No animals are allowed in the bedrooms and the house operates a strict no smoking policy.

Orchid is our largest room and has a super-kingsize bed (168cms / 5ft 6ins), private en-suite shower room and lavatory. There is a sitting area in the room and also a private, open-air balcony outside with a table and chairs. The balcony faces south and west and is a place where you can sip a glass of wine, sunbathe, read, watch the sun go down... as the choice is yours. For two people, Orchid costs 75 euros per night - full details can be viewed by clicking on the PRICES AND BOOKING tab above.

Clockwise from top left the photos show the bedroom to the south and west with the door out on to the private balcony, two more views of the bedroom with the armchairs, the ensuite bathroom with the basin and shower enclosure and below is a photo of Orchid's balcony accessed from the door in photo 1.

Rose has a kingsize double bed (150 cms / 5 ft) and a single bed (90 cms / 3 ft) and can be used as a double or a twin making it a good choice for two friends who are holidaying together.

Rose has sole use of a separate but adjacent bathroom. The bathroom has a loo, bath and in-bath shower with glass screen. There is also a separate lavatory outside the bathroom for the use of guests and other visitors to the house. Rose costs 70 euros per night for double occupancy with a supplement of 15 euros if 3 people use the room, ie the price of Rose for three people is 85 euros per night. Breakfast is included in all prices.

Our guests also have sole use of a sitting room which has table, chairs and a sofa as well as a comfortable, upholstered window seat which overlooks the garden and valley. There are lots of books, in English and in French, a few games... or you can just sit in the sun with a cup of tea or coffee and dream…

The guest sitting room above - where there is seating for 4 - 6 people as well as the table and formal chairs and window seat overlooking the garden and valley. There is also a tv - French and British tv and radio channels.

Just off the guest sitting room are facilities for guests to make their own tea and coffee and other hot drinks at any time of the day (or night) and we keep the guests' fridge supplied with mineral water, fresh milk and biscuits (usually home-made) for those unexpectedly peckish moments. There's usually freshly baked cake from about 5pm so if you come in weak and faint from your expeditions and exertions, we can wake you up again!

Please note: Bookings which include children under the age of 12 are not accepted. La Fosse is set into the hillside with terraces, steps and balconies filled with plants and garden furniture. There is a deep, unfenced wildlife pond. There are no clear, level open spaces for children to run around and enjoy themselves. Thus, the need for permanent supervision and vigilance cannot provide a relaxing, stress-free break for parents. There are no reductions in price for children.

Pets are not accepted. Talk to us if you have an assistance dog who accompanies you.

No smoking is allowed anywhere in the house and this rule is strictly observed. There are areas equipped with ashtrays outside the house where guests can smoke.
